I hope Sherlock season 3 episode one begins with Sherlock appearing to John and being like “I’m home, John. I’m alive. Take me into your arms.” and then John’s just like “Sherlock… it’s been too long. I’ve moved on. I’ve found someone else… someone better…” and then Elementary’s Sherlock emerges from the kitchen with two glasses of red wine and begins to laugh hysterically
and then BBC Sherlock gets a pet mouse

I know some people couldn’t read this review when I wrote it a couple of weeks ago, so I’m just gonna repost it now the pilot episode has actually aired on TV.
In some ways I thought that Elementary seemedcloserto canon than BBC Sherlock, but I don’t want to spam you all by copy-pasting the entire post into Tumblr. ;)Basically, I loved the Holmes & Watson characterisation and found the overall tone to be delightful (including the slight D/s subtext!), but the crimesolving aspects still need some work. Click through to read my full review!
Good thoughts! Personally the whole crime aspect of the episode worked fine for me, but that is because I am a dumb person who has not once in her life even managed to figure out a poorly written episode of Castle. The average American procedural will hoodwink me every time. Every. Goddamn. Time.
I also really, really enjoyed the not-such-a-total-dickhole Holmes, since, yeah, that is a more sensible reflection of the original canon. (I have not read every single word of ACD or anything, but I have read enough to make a decent judgment on things like this.) And, you know, not to say there is anything wrong with dickhole Holmes — adaptions are gonna adapt! — but… it’s just refreshing. I’m really interested by Jonny Lee Miller’s portrayal and want to see where the development of this Holmes/Watson dynamic will go.
Also, Lucy Liu is my dream date and Steven Moffat can eat a bag of bees. BEES! GET IT???
okay can we make a rule that before you post about how ~Elementary is going to ruin the Sherlock Holmes name~ you have to write a 5000 word essay defending the 2010 movie “Sherlock Holmes” and explaining how exactly it supports the “brand”.
because really
I’ve seen this movie twice and I’ll write a 5000 word essay about why it’s the best Sherlock Holmes adaptation ever made.
Lucy Liu’s freckles are the fuckin’ best.

i am looking forward to “elementary” but mostly i am looking forward to seeing what a fandom built largely upon spite will be like
some interesting fanfiction i’ll tell you what: “and then sherlock placed his lips upon joan’s, who was a woman and also lucy liu. and they kissed. with tongues. neither of them were benedict cumberbatch at all.”
